The Sandbox Opens Metaverse Asset Publishing to All Users

Sir Coopernicus

The Sandbox, a leading metaverse for user-generated content (UGC), has announced that users are now able to publish their own assets for future in-world applications.

This means that any user who is registered on The Sandbox can now create voxel-style assets, test them in the Game Maker and share their experience in the project's Gallery.

According to The Sandbox team, users will be able to release their assets to fuel experiences on the NFT-based land. Experiences include everything from simple social interaction worlds to more in-depth games developed by indie studios.

To date, The Sandbox has sold ~26% of the total LAND available in the Ethereum-based metaverse, which recently migrated to Polygon (MATIC) as a scaling solution. Notably, a portion of these LANDs have been purchased by a variety of major brands that have signed on to build out metaverse experiences within The Sandbox, including The Walking Dead, The Smurfs, and more recently, Playboy.

Key clarifications regarding the recent release:

  • Publishing of assets does NOT currently mean minting.
  • Published assets are not NFTs at this time.
  • Minting and ability to trade UGC assets in the Marketplace will come next.
